Professor Siobhain O’Mahony is a global leader in neurobiology and women’s health, renowned for pioneering research on the gut microbiome and its influence on brain function. As an early explorer of the gut–brain axis, she has transformed understanding of stress-related disorders through the lens of sex differences. She has been highly successful in securing major research funding to advance women’s health at UCC, driving innovation in endometriosis and menopause care. She is developing a clinically validated precision supplement for peri/menopause and leads UCC’s Women’s Health Research and Innovation Group. Her leadership and groundbreaking contributions have earned multiple national honours.
